Our Founder's Story

Luca was a great student.
Until Year 12.

He was House Captain, played soccer for NSW, had the lead role in the school musical and excelled in class. Then in Year 12 his world sped up — becoming complex and uncertain. Family events piled up, and he developed a panic disorder.

He would drive to school, have a panic attack in the carpark, drive home, lick his wounds and try again next week. Eventually he was told to come back next year. He repeated twice and graduated high school at 20.

After high school: airline pilot licence, a Master of Science & Technology, and an MBA at one of the country's leading schools.

He worked as a pilot and flight instructor, designed decision-making courses for pilots, became Chief Strategy Officer of one of Australia's largest pilot schools, consulted to some of Australia's largest organisations, and designed and facilitated training programs at a leading MBA school.

...and now he has built Through The Noise.

The workshops translate frameworks from Luca's pilot and strategy background into simple ball games for high school audiences — helping students come to terms with a fast-moving world, re-engage, and start to build Their Life. Their Way. — like he did.

“I try to use my high school experience to cut Through The Noise and reach the kids — so that they can cut Through The Noise to achieve success, however they define it.”

— Luca

Why We Do It

The world keeps speeding up. Institutions can't keep up. That elastic band can't stretch forever.

The Gap is widening

Our young people see that the world has changed drastically, and the way we prepare them for it hasn't. The world they will live in is faster, more complex and more uncertain than the one the curriculum assumes.

Kids are withdrawing

To thrive in a fast world, we must Learn Fast. Adapt Fast. Be Resilient. Be Ourselves. In the absence of these competencies, the pace of change can trigger an anxious “fight or flight” response — and many young people have elected to withdraw.

It can be learned

How to thrive in a fast world is a set of lessons, not a personality type. They just aren't lessons schools currently teach. That's the gap we fill.

FAQ

Questions, answered.

Who are the workshops for?

Years 9, 10 and 11 are the usual audiences. The workshops are a perfect fit for Year 11 Life Ready programs! However, we have run workshops for audiences ranging from Year 5 to Year 12. They are easily adapted to suit any of those audiences.

Do you attend schools to run the workshops?

Yes, we attend schools to run the workshops in person with the students.

Can we book a single workshop or the whole series?

Absolutely. You can book a single workshop, or the whole three-workshop series.

How long are the workshops and how are they run?

Workshop 1 runs for 2.5 hours. Workshop 2 and 3 are both 2 hours each. We run them on separate days, not one after the other, to maximise engagement.

What do students actually do?

Students spend most of their time actively participating in activities — whether they be ball-games, debates, or problem-solving as a group using sticky notes and canvases.

How do I get a quote?

Use the enquiry form and tell us about your cohort, location and preferred dates. We'll come back to you within two business days.
